The New 2021 Hyundai Tucson: The Complete Guide

For the first time in the United States, the New 2021 Hyundai Tucson is available with two hybrid drivetrain choices-including a plug-in hybrid! The fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson looks like nothing else in its class, especially on the outside. When they're off, the exaggerated, angular fender flares and daytime running lights blend into the grille's jewel-like shapes.

Not only is it beautiful on the outside, but it also has some impressive performance and interior features we need to discuss, as well. Keep reading to learn what's new for the Hyundai Tucson in 2021.

Specs and Performance
The new Tucson is available with three drivetrain options. The first is a traditional 2.5-liter direct-injected four-cylinder gas engine paired with an eight-speed automatic with a combined output of 187 hp and 182 lb-ft of torque.

Next, there are two hybrid drivetrains: a plugless or a plug-in hybrid with a 1.6-liter direct-injected turbo four-cylinder engine with an output of 227 hp. The hybrid system offers 258 lb-ft of torque while the gas engine makes 195 lb-ft of torque.

Each trim level comes with Hyundai's HTRAC all-wheel-drive system and several drive modes: Eco, Comfort, Smart, and Sport. Sand, Mud, and Snow are available in select markets. The hybrid versions get E-handling tech for improved cornering and ability in poor weather and improved steering response.

Interior and Infotainment
The Tucson's cabin can be described as dapper with well-built surroundings and user-friendly dashboard controls. It offers a modern European-style interior with an all-black color scheme. You'll find YES Essentials cloth seating in the standard vehicle that resists staining, reduces static, and repels odors. The Limited and Ultimate models come standard with leather seating.

If you fold the SUV's rear seats flat, there's enough room for 22 carry-on suitcases. With the seats up, you can fit seven. The standard infotainment system is a 7.0-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The higher trim levels have an 8.0-inch touchscreen and in-dash navigation.

Safety Features
The 2021 Hyundai Tucson received high marks from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not yet listed their crash test ratings, they gave the nearly identical 2020 model superior ratings across the board.

The following advanced safety features are standard across all Tucson models:
Rearview camera
Forward collision warning
Driver drowsiness monitoring
Lane keep assist
Automatic emergency braking
Lane departure warning

The advanced safety features are available on the higher trim levels or as part of a package:
Surround-view parking camera system
Rear cross-traffic alert
Blind-spot monitoring
Pedestrian detection
Adaptive cruise control
Automatic high-beam headlights

Trim Levels
The 2021 Hyundai Tucson has six different trims, including the SE, Value, SEL, Sport, Limited, and Ultimate. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powers the SE and Value trims. A 2.4-liter inline-four engine powers each of the higher trims.

SE
The SE incorporates all the basics, including automatic halogen headlights, a six-way manual driver's seat, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, manual AC, cloth seating, and all-power accessories.
Included safety features are a rear-view camera, driver attention system, forward collision avoidance, and lane-keeping assist.

Value
As you move up the trim levels, creature comforts and conveniences begin to compound. In the Value model, you get an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, and an expanded safety suite. These safety features include a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The Value also gets an upgrade with HD Radio and SiriusXM.

SEL
Next up is the SEL, which builds on the features added in the Value trim. The SEL has 18-inch wheels, rear AC vents, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It's also the first in the lineup that comes with the bigger engine. In the front, Hyundai adds a USB charging port for passengers.

Sport
The Sport comes in with 19-inch alloy wheels, fitted LED taillights and headlights, front fog lights, and LED DRLS. It also receives a power hands-free liftgate for added convenience. Also included on the Sport trim are a leather-wrapped gear shifter and steering wheel, wireless charging, and an upgraded eight-speaker Infinity sound system.

Limited
The Limited trim level ups the Tucson's luxury level with heated front seats and steering wheel. The passenger seat is power-adjustable, and leather seating is standard. In addition to the previously mentioned safety features, the Limited gets a 360-degree camera.

Ultimate
The Ultimate is the top-of-the-line trim level and offers heaps of value for the money. The highest trim level offers ventilated front seats and heated rear seats for ultimate comfort. The 8.0-inch infotainment screen takes center stage, but you'll also enjoy high-beam assist, pedestrian detection, smart cruise control, and a panoramic sunroof.
