The New 2021 Hyundai Kona: The Complete Guide

The New 2021 Hyundai Kona is one of the most well-rounded subcompact SUVs in its class. With composed handling, a well-built cabin, and a smooth ride, it should be at the top of your wishlist if you're in the market for a new vehicle.

Honda has redesigned several notable features for the all-new 2021 Hyundai Kona to make it more comfortable and luxurious. On top of all of this, it gets good gas mileage-and that's always a plus. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about the all-new 2021 Hyundai Kona available now at Hamilton Hyundai.

The Hyundai Kona's standard model has a 147-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine combined with a six-speed automatic transmission. The available 175-hp 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission offers a more enthusiastic driving experience. This engine makes the vehicle more capable on the highway and jumps more quickly off of the line.

Gas Mileage
The Kona's EPA ratings are in line with similar crossovers with 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway (base engine and front-wheel-drive). The turbo-four engine offers 28 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. With either choice, these numbers drop slightly for the all-wheel-drive models.

Ride and Handling
The small Kona does an excellent job of balancing handling agility and ride comfort. The suspension absorbs most small bumps in the road and feels composed and stable on winding roads. Its low-to-the-ground small stature makes it very maneuverable.

Infotainment and Navigation
The 2021 Kona has a highly user-friendly infotainment system to adjust via the touch screen or physical controls. The buttons are easy to find and reach from the driver's seat. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models and make it easy to sync your mobile device to the car's system.

Additional standard infotainment features include:
  • 7.0-inch touch screen
  • Six-speaker stereo
  • Two USB ports
  • Bluetooth

Higher trims and packages add these available infotainment features:
  • 8.0-inch touch screen
  • An eight-speaker Infinity sound system
  • Navigation
  • HD Radio
  • Satellite radio
  • Wireless device charging
You also have the option of adding automatic climate control, a sunroof, proximity keyless entry, and push-button start.

Safety Features
2021 Hyundai Kona changes earned it a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It received four stars in the rollover test and five stars in the frontal and side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not yet rated the 2021 Kona.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. More advanced features are also available, including blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and a head-up display.

2021 Hyundai Kona Trim Levels
The 2021 Hyundai Kona is available in six trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Night Edition, Limited, and Ultimate. An electric model is also available.

The Kona SE is the base model and comes with a 147-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. It includes cloth seats, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 7-in touch screen with six speakers, and standard driver assistance features.

The Kona SEL is a step up from the SE, adding proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a sunroof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shifter, heated front seats. It also has HD Radio, satellite radio, and blind-spot monitoring complete with rear cross-traffic alert.

In addition to the features found on the SEL, the SEL Plus adds Hyundai's Blue Link telematics system, wireless device charging, an eight-speaker Infinity premium stereo, and a power-adjustable driver's seat.

Hyundai Kona Night Edition
The Night Edition is all-new for 2021 and has unique styling elements. It comes with the 175-hp turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It has similar features to the SEL Plus, but it doesn't have a sunroof or wireless device charging. However, it does come with HD Radio and satellite radio.

As the name implies, this model offers gloss black interior and exterior accents, especially where you'd normally find chrome or another shade. The interior features silver on the door handles, while other components get the blackout treatment. Not everything is black, however. There are the aluminum brake and throttle pedals to greet you as you get in.

The Limited is the second-highest Kona trim level and includes most of the features already listed.
The Limited has automatic climate control, a sunroof, leather seats, and full LED headlights.

The Ultimate is exactly what it sounds like-the ultimate Hyundai Kona. It comes with nearly every feature Hyundai offers, including an 8.0-in touch screen, navigation system, and head-up display.

It also comes equipped with several advanced safety features, including rear parking sensors, pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control.
